Falk Calls Out Justin Trudeau’s Double Standard on Summer Jobs Program

“In the House of Commons yesterday, Andrew Scheer, Leader of the Official Opposition, asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau why his Liberal Government was supporting an anti-pipeline activist group with taxpayer funds through the Canada Summer Jobs Program.
The British Columbia-based Dogwood Initiative will receive funding to hire an assistant to help organize their network which is dedicated to stopping the Kinder Morgan pipeline.
Mr. Trudeau’s response took everyone by surprise when he said ‘… we believe in free speech and we believe in advocacy on this side of the house.’
It appears that Mr. Trudeau may be suffering from a short term memory problem. He has spent the past four months working hard to limit not only free speech, but freedom of thought, expression and belief. Faith-based organizations across the country this morning are shaking their heads in disbelief after their months-long battle to be included in the Canada Summer Jobs program.
Where was Mr. Trudeau’s defense of free speech for these groups?
But, Mr. Trudeau was not done. In order to drive the final nail through the hearts of those 1500 groups that were denied funding and the thousands of youth who were denied jobs, our Prime Minister went on to say ‘We will not remove funding from advocacy organizations because we as a government happen to disagree with them.’
So, Mr. Trudeau will fund groups that are actively trying to block a project in the national interest which would create tens of thousands of jobs, but is more than happy to deny funding to non-activist groups such as summer camps, daycares and seniors homes who simply, in their hearts, disagree with him on social issues?
Justin Trudeau should immediately apologize to the millions of Canadians who he has begun treating as second-class citizens.
As the Member of Parliament for Provencher, I will continue to defend the freedoms that all Canadians were intended to enjoy.”
