Conservatives will make Canada work for those who work
Canadians are rightly concerned about the ongoing work stoppages, strikes, and labour disputes taking place across the country.
On Saturday, mediated talks between port of Vancouver—Canada’s largest cargo port—workers and management broke down. Striking employees remain locked out and vital cargo remains unshipped.
This is the great tragedy of labour stoppages and strife. It’s not just about the workers and management. These failures to find a compromise hurt the Canadians and businesses who rely on those goods being shipped, across the country and around the globe.
2023 saw the highest number of work stoppages and interruptions since 1985.
Labour strife over the past year has disrupted more than $10 billion in economic activity.
A strike at the Port of Vancouver. A strike at CN Rail. A strike at Air Canada. A federal public employees strike. Now there is talk of an impending strike at Canada Post.
What do they all have in common?
They are all federally regulated industries.
They can all be traced back to the failures of the Trudeau Government.
This is the chaos created after nine years of Justin Trudeau and the Liberals, and their, supposedly, “labour friendly” enablers in the NDP.
The number of work stoppages under this Prime Minister have only been exceeded by one other Prime Minister, Pierre Elliot Trudeau—Justin Trudeau’s father.
This is the sad result of reckless spending and failed Liberal economic policies that have driven inflation.
Unfortunately, when inflation rises, so do work stoppages. Folks who earned what was a livable—even a generous wage—can no longer make ends meet, particularly in major urban centres where the cost of living is already exponentially higher.
This government’s inflationary policies have contributed to this increase in labour strife because life has gotten that much harder for workers. This Liberal Government and their NDP enablers have made everything more expensive through their recklessly borrowing, spending, and raising taxes. They have destroyed the promise that was Canada; that if you work hard, you can get a good job with a good wage and you can live in a decent home and afford to feed your family.
This is no longer the case in Justin Trudeau’s Canada.
Working Canadians, understandably, feel betrayed.
Common Sense Conservatives believe that the best deals are made at the bargaining table.
Workers deserve a fair deal and good wages, and we respect this.
Likewise, management must keep an eye on the bottom line and ensure viability.
Under a common-sense Conservative Government led by Pierre Poilievre, Canadian workers will have more powerful paychecks to buy affordable food, gas, and homes to live in, but taxes will be lower so they can bring home more of those paychecks.
Only Conservatives can fix Canada’s lagging economy.
Only Conservatives are fighting for working Canadians.
Only Conservatives will make Canada work for those who work.
