Falk Calls on Prime Minister Trudeau to End Illegal Blockades

Steinbach, MB – Ted Falk, Member of Parliament for Provencher, released the following statement today regarding Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s failure to take action to resolve the illegal blockades crisis:

“For the past two weeks, illegal blockades have negatively impacted Canadians from coast to coast. Radical activists opposing an energy project are holding our country’s economy hostage and the Trudeau Liberals have failed to take action to bring an end to these blockages.

“As a result of their inaction, many Canadians have been prevented from getting to and from work. Small businesses and farmers have struggled to get their goods to market, and a significant number of Canadians are suffering jobs losses.

“While all Canadians have the right to freedom of speech and the freedom to protest peacefully, all of us also have a responsibility to obey the law. As Prime Minister, it is Justin Trudeau’s duty to ensure the rule of law is upheld.

“This project has been approved by all levels of government, including Indigenous leaders, and is the express wish of a majority of affected Indigenous communities. Moreover, the courts have ruled that the blockades are illegal and must be removed.

“Over the past two weeks, and in his statement today, Mr. Trudeau has tried to pass off the responsibility for ending these illegal blockades to the RCMP, the Ontario Provincial Police, the provinces, and Indigenous leaders.

“Unfortunately, in his press conference today, Mr. Trudeau doubled down on his failed approach. He offered no solutions and refused to offer meaningful answers to reporters’ questions about how he would restore order. He just continued to pass the buck.

“The Prime Minister must do his job and act now to restore road and rail access at all illegal blockade sites.”
