Statement on Trudeau Government’s Refusal to Implement Conservative Bill Passed by Parliament

Steinbach, MB – Ted Falk, Member of Parliament for Provencher, issued the following statement on the Trudeau government’s refusal to implement a law lowering taxes for farm and small business transfers:

“Justin Trudeau’s Liberal government is defying the will of Parliament by refusing to implement Bill C-208.

“This bill, which ensures farmers and small business owners receive the same tax treatment when selling their operation to a family member as when selling to a third party, received Royal Assent and became law in Canada on June 29. I was pleased to second this bill.

“Time and again, Justin Trudeau has shown his contempt for the will of Parliament. Bill C-208 received majority support in the House of Commons and in the Senate. It was supported by MPs in all parties – including even a few Liberals. Yet the Trudeau government is simply choosing not to implement it.

“Canadian farmers and small business owners should have tax fairness today. Instead, the Liberals are denying these hard-working Canadians the fair tax treatment they’re owed.

“Whether Justin Trudeau likes it or not, Bill C-208 is now the law and he must ensure it is implemented immediately.”
