Liberal Flip Flops
The Trudeau Liberals have always had a loose relationship with the truth. However, the recent moves the Liberals have announced go beyond hypocrisy into an alternate reality.
Let’s start with the government’s signature policy, the Carbon Tax.
Liberal candidates to replace Justin Trudeau are falling all over themselves to promise they will get rid of the Carbon Tax.
Chrystia Freeland has promised to scrap the Carbon Tax for consumers because Canadians don’t want it. For Chrystia Freeland to claim she is now suddenly against the Carbon Tax is absurd. Canadians have never wanted this tax. It’s been hurting Canadian consumers and the economy for 7 years. She has supported and championed this specific tax for years. She kept it as finance minister. She lambasted those who opposed it. To claim otherwise now, or for that matter that she suddenly cares about the impact of her government’s policies on Canadians, is disingenuous simply beyond belief.
Leadership frontrunner Mark Carney has also announced he will pause the Carbon Tax (which he has referred to as the “gold standard for the world”) for the few months before the election in a weak attempt to trick people into re-electing the Liberals. Then he will bring in the mother of all carbon taxes on Canadian industry—another job-killing, inflationary tax that will drive jobs south of the border.
Likewise on national defense, the candidates have been out-promising each other on defense spending, promising to hit the NATO target of 2% of GDP. Freeland as Finance minister could have given the Canadians Armed Forces the money they needed (she didn’t), and Carney is endorsed by all three of Justin Trudeau’s Liberal defence ministers who have failed our armed forces and allies so spectacularly. The Liberals have done nothing on defense and now as we face multiple critical threats to our sovereignty we are largely defenceless.
Then there’s our resource sector. Last week, Natural Resources Minister Jonathan Wilkinson announced the need for an east-west pipeline across Canada.
For nine years the Trudeau Liberals have sought to kill our energy sector—with Mark Carney advising and cheering them on from the sidelines. Liberal bills C-69 and C-48 that ensured Canada could not get pipelines built. It was Liberals who killed 16 different (previously approved) resource projects including pipelines and burdened others with so much red tape and bureaucracy they could not succeed. Leadership candidate Carney supported Trudeau’s veto of the Norther Gateway pipeline at the same time his company was building pipelines in South America and the Middle East.
After nine years of doing nothing to reduce barriers to inter-provincial trade, Minister Anita Anand is now claiming the government is working hard on the issue.
The Liberals (both in government and on the campaign trail) are now talking tough on securing the border and on drugs. Where to even begin.
Let’s start back in 2017 when Justin Trudeau posted his now infamous “welcome to Canada” tweet, starting a stampede for our border.
Tens of thousands of people have crossed illegally into Canada, including in our own riding via Emerson (it’s still happening) and most notably at Roxham Road in Quebec. Rather than take steps to stop illegal border crossers, the Trudeau Government built them a welcome centre and a bridge to ease their crossing. They have spent billions, not on border enforcement or deportations but on hotels and healthcare for illegal migrants.
After 9 years of the Liberal Government, gun-related crime is up 116%. 85% of gun offences use illegal firearms from the United States.
Canadian security services have identified 350 organized crime rings operating within our borders. Sixty-three of these groups have international connections to China, Mexico, and other nations.
The Liberal government let multiple ISIS terrorists into Canada, including a man allegedly filmed cutting up a human body on a crucifix in the Middle East—the same man charged with planning a terrorist attack in Canada.
They have let spies from China and IRGC members from Iran commit acts of espionage.
The government admits it has lost count of the number of people here in Canada illegally. One government report estimated could be as many as 500,000 people.
In similar fashion, the Liberals are trying to promote their appointment of a “Fentanyl Czar” as proof they are taking a harder approach on drugs.
This is the same government that reduced sentencing for drug traffickers through Bill C-5 and legalized hard drugs in BC. They used taxpayer dollars to fund hard drugs for Canadians suffering from addiction. Their radical policies have led to 50,000 Canadian deaths from opioid overdoses.
For 9 years the Liberals have doubled down on all of these failed polices, over and over again. Now, they are flipping and flopping to try to appease Donald Trump and save their own political skins.
Do not be fooled by Liberal deception.
These people have been in charge for 9 years.
The Liberals have not changed what they believe.
They are desperately lying to Canadians to try and cover for their nine years of failure.
Whatever the issue; the Liberals should be judged not on what they are saying now, but on what they actually did over the last nine years.
Their record tells you what they believe, what they’ve always believed and what they still believe, regardless of their recent attempts to lie to Canadians and make them think otherwise.
