ST. ADOLPHE EAST DIKE EXPANSION OFFICIALLY BEGINS
Project made possible thanks to Building Canada Fund – Communities Component
St. Adolphe, MB—The Honourable Ron Lemieux, Minister of Tourism, Culture, Heritage, Sport and Consumer Protection on behalf of the Honourable Drew Caldwell, Manitoba Minister of Municipal Government and Ted Falk, Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification, were joined today by Jackie Hunt, Mayor of RM of Ritchot, to officially kick off the St. Adolphe East Dike Expansion project.
“The Province of Manitoba has made flood protection a high priority,” said Minister Lemieux. “These projects are essential to protecting lives, and livelihoods of Manitobans. This project will ensure that the community of St. Adolphe is secure, and can continue to grow and prosper economically.”
“Our Government is committed to creating growth and long-term prosperity across this country,” says Ted Falk, Member of Parliament for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. “This project will not only protect the community of St. Adolphe from flooding for many years to come, it will also allow for growth and economic development within the town’s boundaries.”
The St. Adolphe East Dike Expansion includes the reconstruction of the existing easterly portion of the St. Adolphe Flood Protection Ring Dike. The newly expanded dike will be approximately 4 kilometers in length and built to accommodate a 1-in-200 year flood protection level while maximizing community safety in severe flooding conditions.
Under the Building Canada Fund – Communities Component the Government of Canada has committed up to $2,310,400, while the Province of Manitoba has committed up to $4,009,352. The RM of Ritchot will provide the remainder of the balance towards the project.
“Being part of the Manitoba Capital Region, we have seen tremendous growth over the last 5 – 10 years,” said Mayor Hunt. “With the addition of 300 acres of flood-protected land, St. Adolphe will continue to grow and prosper for years to come.”
The expansion of the East Dike is expected to provide more than 350 existing homes and 40 existing commercial businesses with improved flood protection, as well as allow the town to accommodate future growth and economic opportunities. The project is expected to be completed in 2016.

« La protection contre les incendies est une grande priorité pour la province du Manitoba, a déclaré le ministre. Des projets comme celui-ci protègent la vie de Manitobains et leurs moyens de subsistance. Grâce à ce projet, la communauté de Saint-Adolphe pourra continuer de croître et de prospérer en toute sécurité. »
« Le gouvernement s’est engagé à favoriser la croissance et à augmenter la prospérité à long terme », a déclaré Ted Falk, député de Provencher, au nom de l’honorable Michelle Rempel, ministre d’État (Diversification de l’économie de l’Ouest). « Non seulement ce projet protégera la communauté de Saint-Adolphe contre les inondations pendant de nombreuses années, mais il favorisera également la croissance et le développement économique dans les limites de la ville. »
L’agrandissement de la digue est de Saint-Adolphe comprend la reconstruction de la partie est du filon annulaire de protection contre les inondations de Saint-Adolphe. La nouvelle digue agrandie aura une longueur approximative de quatre kilomètres et offrira un niveau de protection contre les inondations d’une récurrence de 200 ans, tout en augmentant la sécurité de la collectivité contre les graves inondations.
Grâce au volet Collectivités du Fonds Chantiers Canada, le gouvernement du Canada s’est engagé à verser jusqu’à 2 310 400 $ et la province du Manitoba jusqu’à 4 009 352 $. La municipalité régionale de Ritchot versera le reste des fonds nécessaires au projet.
« Faisant partie intégrante de la région de la capitale du Manitoba, nous avons été témoins d’une extraordinaire croissance depuis les 5 à 10 dernières années, a précisé la mairesse Hunt. Grâce aux 300 acres de terres supplémentaires qui seront protégées contre les inondations, Saint-Adolphe continuera de croître et de prospérer pendant des années. »
L’agrandissement de la digue est devrait offrir une meilleure protection à plus de 350 foyers existants ainsi qu’à une quarantaine d’entreprises, tout en offrant à la municipalité des possibilités de croissance économique. Les travaux devraient prendre fin en 2016.
