The year that was and the year ahead

It was a wild end to 2024.

Justin Trudeau unceremoniously fired one of his most enthusiastic supporters, Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland—over Zoom no less—in an effort to bring former Bank of Canada and Bank of England head Mark Carney into the Liberal fold.

To say the effort backfired would be the understatement of the year.

Freeland turned around and buried the Prime Minster in the press with an icy resignation letter just hours before she was to deliver the government’s fall economic update—jumpstarting what many insiders considered to be a dead leadership bid to replace Trudeau. Carney ran for cover rather than for office. Trudeau, himself, was quickly whisked into hiding by his handlers.

In yet another flip flop, the ever-emphatic Jagmeet Singh wrote his own letter claiming he too would vote to bring down the government—though it is now unclear if he will. Singh has always been big on standing on principal but holding on to one consistently for any period of time continues to elude him.

Freeland was the 9th Cabinet Minister to resign or who have said they would not be seeking re-election in recent days. Trudeau has since shuffled his Cabinet (without much fanfare) adding several new albeit uninspiring faces to man the Liberal ship as it sinks below the surface after hitting the Freeland resignation iceberg.

Freeland’s resignation was a fitting end to a year that saw Trudeau and the Liberals battered by scandals and failures. A year of soaring housing and cost-of-living costs. A year of rampant crime. A year that ends where it began; with Trudeau and his increasingly unhappy crew down by more than 20 points, battling their once NDP coalition partners for second place.

Judging by the polls, Canadians are clearly ready for a change.

The only people who don’t seem to get the message—or better put, have become very adept at ignoring it—are those who sit across from me in the House of Commons.

But there’s good news!

2025 will be different!

Perhaps not at first. It’s unclear exactly when an election will be. But it will come.

By October 20th of this year, within the next ten months, Canadians will have the opportunity to go to the polls and vote for the future they want.

To fire Justin and Jagmeet and elect a government that has and will continue to listen to the Canadian people.

A new Conservative majority government to begin the long process of fixing everything Justin Trudeau and the Liberals have broken.

2025 will be the year Canada turns the page.

Pierre Poilievre and Canada’s Conservatives will end the radical woke policies of Justin Trudeau and bring common sense to how our country is governed.

We will end the corruption of the Trudeau years and restore ethics to Ottawa.

We will celebrate our country and restore national pride in Canada.

A Conservative Government will axe the tax, build the homes, fix the budget, and stop the crime.

We will bring home powerful pay cheques for Canadian workers so they can live in affordable homes in safe neighborhoods; so, the Canadian dream can be realized by all.

Most Canadians are happy to say goodbye to 2024, but the year that was is now behind us, and the year ahead is filled with hope.

Happy New Year Provencher!
