Trails Manitoba and South Whiteshell Trail Association officially open new section of the Border to Beaches Trail in the Whiteshell

At 2 o’clock this Sunday trail enthusiasts will hike, bike and run the new South Shore Trail. Guests will gather at the Falcon Lake Causeway and later be treated to an evening of music and food at Falcon Trails Resort. As the newest section of the Trans Canada Trail in Manitoba this 13 kilometre trail offers a scenic stroll through beautiful forest, offering wildlife watching and berry picking opportunities in season.

Ms. Maureen Barchyn, President of South Whiteshell Trail Association, says the Falcon South Shore Trail will have a strong impact on the local economy “This Trail was built using local contractors and materials and creates an exceptional venue for year round recreational activity in the South Whiteshell area.”

This multi-use trail will be enjoyed by seasonal and permanent residents of all ages and will continue to attract visitors to the region. The new section of Trail is designed for hiking, cycling, and horseback riding, as well as cross-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter months.

The Border to Beaches Trail project is a $4.6 million initiative jointly funded by the federal government, the Province of Manitoba, and Trails Manitoba.

“Our Government is proud to have invested in the Border to Beaches Trail project,” said Ted Falk, MP for Provencher, on behalf of the Honourable Michelle Rempel, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification. “This initiative is boosting economic activity in the area while promoting health and wellness and encouraging people to discover rural Manitoba’s serene beauty.”

Mr. Ian Hughes, president of Trails Manitoba says that the opening of this section of Trail represents another milestone for the Border to Beaches Trail. “The South Shore Trail at Falcon Lake is a feature segment of the Border to Beaches Trail. All trails encourage exploration and this one provides access to Manitoba’s picturesque wilderness and natural wonders.”

The Trans Canada Trail has provided $950,000 towards the Border to Beaches Initiative.
